A Road Less Traveled
Take The Road Less Traveled.
Understand Why.

About Me
Hi, I'm Tyler Mudd MRC, LCMHC, CRC. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) providing online therapy in North Carolina.
People tell me that I am warm, direct, and genuinely collaborative. I work especially well with people who are thoughtful, self-aware, and motivated to understand themselves, but still feel stuck in patterns they can’t quite explain or change.
Rather than simply focusing on symptoms, I’m interested in the bigger picture: why you think, feel, and respond the way you do, where those patterns came from, and what it would take to move forward differently. I work with concerns including anxiety, depression, relationships, life transitions, self-understanding, and career changes.
My background includes 15+ years of experience in psychiatric hospitals, crisis services, vocational rehabilitation, and high-end mental health care. That experience taught me how to sit with difficult things without losing sight of the person underneath them.
I’ve known I wanted to be a therapist since I was a child. Long before I had the credentials or professional titles, I was drawn to understanding people, listening to their stories, and helping them find their way through difficult things. I still feel that way today.
Therapy with me isn’t about giving you a script for how you’re supposed to live. It’s about understanding yourself more clearly, finding what actually works for you, and building a life that feels more intentional and genuinely your own.
My Approach

I don’t believe therapy should be a one-size-fits-all process. Some people need space to be heard. Sometimes you need someone to challenge you, help you make sense of something, or offer a different perspective. Good therapy requires knowing the difference.
I take a person-centered approach, meaning we start with you. You can expect a therapist who will treat you with empathy, genuineness, and a genuine belief in your ability to grow, even when things are difficult. Together, we look at the patterns that keep showing up in your life, understand where they came from, and figure out what needs to change.
My style is conversational, thoughtful, and flexible. I draw from approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), psychodynamic therapy, existential therapy, and other evidence-based methods. I use what fits rather than forcing you into a particular model.
I’m comfortable with things being messy and complicated. Human beings and the lives they live rarely fit neatly into categories. Sometimes therapy means slowing down and understanding something more deeply. Sometimes it means challenging an old pattern, trying something different, or simply having someone beside you while you work through something difficult. The goal is to find a way forward that actually makes sense for you.
My goal is not simply to help you feel better in the moment. I want therapy to help you understand yourself more deeply, recognize the patterns that may be getting in your way, and use that understanding to make meaningful changes in your life.
It takes courage and guts to face the challenges we encounter in life. I have a great deal of respect for that courage, and I never take it lightly when someone trusts me enough to be honest about what they are going through. I genuinely love this work, and I strive to create a therapeutic relationship where you can be honest, take risks, and do the kind of work that leads to meaningful change.
